Marie-Claire Blais

Marie-Claire Blais was born and raised in Québec City. At the age of 20 she had her first novel published, and it was subsequently translated into English, Spanish and Italian. Her 1965 novel, Une Saison Dans la Vie d’Emmanuel, was awarded the Prix France-Canada, as well as the Prix Médicis, and brought her a much wider international audience with translations into multiple languages. After living for some years in Europe, she eventually settled in Montreal. Aside from novels, her published work includes critical editions, translations, plays, and radio and TV scripts. Two of her novels have been adapted for the big screen. Her awards include Governor General’s Awards for Les Manuscrits de Pauline Archange (1968), Le Sourd Dans la Ville (1979), Soif (1995), and Naissance de Rebecca à l’Ère des Tourments (2008).
