Sophie Voillot

Sophie Voillot was born in Marseille and grew up in the Montreal area. She studied literature and linguistics and worked for a short while as a screenwriter before focusing on translation. She also has published poems and short stories in various reviews and has authored several literary translations. Voillot was awarded the Governor General’s Literary Award in 2006 for her translation of Thomas Wharton’s novel Salamander (French title: Un Jardin de Papier); in 2010 for her translation of Rawi Hage’s second novel, Cockroach (French title: Le Cafard); and in 2013 for her translation of Alison Pick’s novel Far to Go (French title: L’enfant du jeudi). Sophie lives in Montreal.
