An Emmy-nominated investigative medical and science journalist, Nicholas Regush had a 12-year career as a reporter for the Montreal Gazette. He also spent a decade as a producer of medical features at ABC News in New York before returning to Montreal to launch his most ambitious project, the highly-respected health Web site, Red Flags. Among his many achievements, Regush’s courageous documentary on the CBC’s Fifth Estate in 1996, “The Heart of the Matter”, triggered groundbreaking research and an international re-examination of the influence of financial relationships between medical researchers and the drug industry, leading to new ethical standards on conflict of interest in medical research. In late 2004, he died of a heart attack.
