Richard King was born in Montreal in 1945. He completed his B.A. in European History at Sir George Williams University (now Concordia). After attending graduate school at University of Rochester, he lived in Paris before returning to Montreal, where he became co-owner of a popular independent bookstore, Paragraphe. He has also served on the board of directors of the Canadian Booksellers Association. A books columnist on CBC, Montreal, he has volunteered in the emergency department of the Jewish General Hospital since 2009. He lives in Montreal.
