Joël Des Rosiers

Joël Des Rosiers was born in Cayes, Haiti, in 1951 and immigrated to Canada as a child. He later studied in Strasburg and joined the situationist movement in the early 1970s. He is a psychiatrist, essayist, award-winning poet and political activist on the international stage. His collection of essays Tribu was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award in 1990. Des Rosiers won the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal for his 1999 poetry collection Vétiver. He also received the Prix de la Société des écrivains canadiens in 1997 for Théories Caraïbes, a collection of essays. His work has been published in several languages.
