John Hart Whitt is a Canadian, born in Oklahoma in 1947. He has lived in the United States, Africa, England, France and Ontario, before settling definitively in Quebec City in 1974. Son of a military chaplain, he was deeply influenced by military life, especially at the U.S. Naval Academy where he was accepted as a midshipman at 18. After two years of rigorous training which included sailing on the Charles F. Adams, a guided missile destroyer, Whitt’s predominant passion for literature called him to change paths. He completed his B.A. with summa cum laude at the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Minnesota, then an M.A. at the University of Washington. Mr.Whitt has taught English literature at Cegep Champlain-St. Lawrence for almost thirty years and has lectured at Université Laval for ten. With a wide range of experience in the main literary genres, he specializes in Shakespeare and poetry, which he terms respectively “my Bible and my way of life.”
