Jori Smith

Jori Smith was born on January 1, 1907. She was a well-known Canadian painter, whose work spans several decades. Although primarily associated with Montreal, her evolution as a painter paralleled the founding and growth of the Canadian Group of painters and the Contemporary Art Society. She was known for her stunning and frank portraits and for her lively landscapes. In the 1930s, with her husband Jean Palardy, who became an expert on antique furniture of Quebec, she lived in Charlevoix County. She has documented that experience in her book Charlevoix County, 1930. She passed away in November of 2005.
