Gabriel Safdie

Gabriel Safdie began to explore the possibilities inherent in imagist lyricism while doing an MA under Earle Birney. But it was in the context of subsequent work, at the University of London and the Sorbonne, on the theory of William Carlos Williams and modernist trends that he first attempted a distinct imagist poetics. After 20 years of teaching literature, drama, and creative writing in London, Paris, and Montreal’s Dawson College, Safdie’s activities now range from music and theatre to travel and commerce. However, throughout his working career, it is writing that has continued to be his one constant endeavour, with the writing of poetry and drama being the most consistent of all.
