Charles Lynch was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but came to Canada two weeks after his birth. He grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick, and started his career in journalism with the Saint John Citizen at age 17. He became a war correspondent for Reuters in 1943 and covered the D-Day landings and the Nuremberg War Trials. He became head of Southam News and from 1958-84 wrote a daily column on national affairs. He died in Ottawa in 1994.
