Leo John Hammerschmid

Leo Hammerschmid wrote a book on the life of Empress Zita, her sojourn in Canada from 1940 to 1950, and her contribution to the re-establishment of an independent Austria after World War II. He has also presented papers to historical societies in Montreal and Toronto on the lives of Emperor Francis Joseph and the Empress Maria Theresa.rnrnHammerschmid has been extremely active in the Austrian cultural community of Ottawa and Montreal, organizing many important concerts and matinees. From 1988 to 1997, he was an active co-host on Montreal’s ethnic cable channel, organizing and presenting Austrian cultural and musical programs. rn
