Liam Durcan

Liam Durcan was born in Winnipeg, where he obtained his MD from the University of Manitoba. He moved to Montreal to complete his residency in neurology at McGill University. He is a staff neurologist at the Montreal Neurological Hospital and an assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University. rnHe has published short fiction since 2000 in a variety of Canadian and U.S. journals. His short fiction has won the 2004 Quebec Writers Federation/CBC prize, and his work has been short-listed three times for the CBC National Literary Awards. In 2007 he published his first novel, Garcia’s Heart, which was short-listed for the 2007 Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and won the 2008 Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel. He lives in Montreal.
