Beatrice Deer is a singer-songwriter from Quaqtaq, Nunavik, QC. Her music is a combination of traditional Inuit throat singing and indie pop rock. Deer has released three full-length albums and a Christmas album, and her most recent EP, “Fox”, was released in March 2015. Her breakthrough album, “Just Bea,” was released in May 2005 and won an award for Best Inuit Cultural Album at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards the same year. Since then Deer has travelled extensively across the Canadian North to perform for and provide training to artists in her community, educating them on professional development, funding and project collaboration. Deer is also an activist working to bring attention to suicide awareness and prevention in Indigenous communities, speaking openly about her personal experiences with suicide and depression to increase awareness and to foster dialogue on a global scale.
