Violet “Vi” Bercovitch

Vi Bercovitch was born in 1898. Raised as a privileged child, she became an instant mother when she met and married a widower physician with a 12-year-old daughter. Vi also took care of her own mother, who died when Vi was 70. Upon her mother’s death, Vi began to write poetry, and her sense of humour and irony found a new outlet. After an interview on CBC’s Open House, orders for the work-in- progress poured in. Her collection of poetry, Mirror, Mirror, was published when she was 95. Vi lived for eight months after the book was published. She died in 1994.
