Sharon Batt

An award-winning journalist and editor, Sharon Batt has become an activist and a sought-after speaker on the politics of breast cancer. Since her diagnosis with breast cancer in 1988, she has written numerous articles and radio pieces on the disease. Her two-hour documentary on The Cancer Personality for CBC Radio’s Ideas won First Prize for Excellence in Health Reporting, given by the Canadian Nurses’ Association. For six years she was an editor and columnist with the consumer education magazine, Protect Yourself. She co-founded the feminist magazine Branching Out, and was the magazine’s editor from 1974 to 1980. During this time, she also served as vice president of the Canadian Periodicals Publishers Association. She holds an Honours B.A. in Psychology from Carleton University and an M.A. in Social Psychology from the University of British Columbia.
