Dog Years

A remarkable, unapologetic novel that portrays AIDS as a cultural and linguistic metaphor and tests the relationship between free will and and moral responsibility amid the wreckage of a burgeoning catastrophe. This is a story within a story: the narrator, who has been diagnosed as HIV-positive, is seated at his computer, composing his life story in an attempt to come to terms with a life not fully lived, a journey which takes him from the urban landscape of Vancouver to the luminous countryside outside of Kiev. Dog Years demands an evaluation outside normal codes of structure and conduct in its portrayal of life percieved to be on the fringe that is essentially part of all of us.
