Finalist for QWF Translation Prize in 2000

Fer_kinkajou

The original English edition of this novel appeared in 1989.

Kyle Elder can’t believe his good fortune when he inherits a huge Vermont inn from a father he has never met. But soon he finds he has trouble believing some of the other things that are happening to him. First, he finds a skeleton in the trunk of his car. Then he starts to fall in love with a nun. Finally, he discovers that he is being investigated by the police because of the mysterious death of one of his guests at the inn who just happened to die in Kyle’s bed.

But in the world of The Kinkajou, things are seldom what they seem. Kyle finds that the behaviour of the skeleton, the nun, and the police are not at all predictable, and that the solutions to his problems lie in his own troubled past, and not in the hills of Vermont.
