My Own Devices by Corey Frost
Finalist for McAuslan First Book Prize in 2003

My Own Devices is a concept: a series of stories in which the main characters, all of whom are named Corey Frost, are left to their own devices in Japan, Brazil, Sumatra, St. Petersburg, Macau, Montreal, New York, and elsewhere. The devices include various phones, cameras, tiny cars and mini-disc recorders, as well as a backpack full of witty, occasionally satirical literary gimmicks. My Own Devices is a fun, irreverent, border-hopping excursion, full of post-colonial unpredictability and tinged with millenial malaise.
