Different Vision, A by Reid Scowen
Finalist for The QSPELL Prize for Non-Fiction in 1991
This is a book for English Quebecers. Its purpose is to stimulate further reflection on our future as a community… I think that the English community in Quebec should grow. Furthermore I believe it can – in confidence, in numbers, and in strength. And I believe that the French majority can grow at the same time. In other words I believe that there is plenty of room in Quebec for both communities, and that it need not be a matter of winners and losers….In order for this to happen, the English will have to reassert themselves, in a different, positive way, relying on their unique stregths as the distinct society within Quebec that they have always been. Such an approach will make it possible for them to eventually become fully accepted partners in Quebec life. (From the foreword)
