Gail Scott was born in Ottawa and grew up in a bilingual community in Eastern Ontario. She worked as a journalist for several years writing about Quebec culture and politics for The Gazette, as well as contributing to The Globe & Mail and Maclean’s. She has been an editor of Spirale and Tessera. Her fiction and criticism have appeared in several journals. Scott lives in Montréal. She is contributing editor of The Narrative Site, a website magazine sponsored by the Poetry Center at San Francisco State University and devoted to discussing new forms of narrative. Her work has been translated into French and German. Her 1993 novel Main Brides was selected one of the best 10 Montréal novels of the century by The Montréal Gazette.
