Ralph Gustafson
Ralph Gustafson (1909- 1995) was born in 1909 to Swedish-English parents in Lime Ridge, Quebec. He was educated at Bishop’s University, Lennoxville, and recieved a scholarship to Oxford. He lived in Oxford until 1939. From 1963 until 1979 he was Professor of English and Poet in Residence at Bishop’s. Gustafson was the author of over 29 books of poetry, and won the Governor General’s award for his 1974 book, Fire on Stone. He edited several Canadian poetry anthologies, including The Penguin Book of Canadian Verse. He was also the co-founder of the League of Canadian Poets.
