Avi Friedman

Avi

Avi Friedman is the author of five books, all on housing: The Grow Home, Planning the New Suburbia, The Adaptable House, and Peeking through the Keyhole (with David Krawitz). He has written numerous articles on subjects ranging from construction technology to neighborhood planning for academic and trade publications in both Canada and the United States. His syndicated column has appeared in the CanWest chain of newspapers since August 2000. Friedman’s designs for housing prototypes-such as the Grow Home and the New Home-are renowned internationally for their innovation. He is also the winner of numerous design awards. Friedman lives in Montreal and teaches at the McGill School of Architecture, where he is associate professor and director of the Affordable Homes Program. He is the recipient of the United Nations World Habitat Award, the Creative Achievement Award (Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture), and the Prix J.-Armand Bombardier. His latest book is 2006’s Room for Thought, published by Penguin Group Canada.
