Monika Kin Gagnon
Monika Kin Gagnon is a Montreal-born writer and critic of Japanese descent. She holds a PhD in Communication Studies from Simon Fraser University. Gagnon’s body of work focuses on the multimedia connections between race, ethnicity, and representation. Her first book, Other Conundrums: Race, Culture, and Canadian Art (Arsenal Pulp/Artspeak/KAG, 2000), was nominated for the Quebec Writers’ Federation First Book Award and the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize in 2001. Gagnon also co-authored 13 Conversations About Art and Cultural Race Politics (Artexte Editions, 2002) with video artist Richard Fung. Her numerous essays have been widely published and anthologized, both in Canada and internationally. Currently, Gagnon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Concordia University. She also serves as co-editor of Parallelogramme.
