Chava Rosenfarb
Chava Rosenfarb was born in Lodz, Poland. She survived the Jewish ghetto of Lodz and the Nazi concentration camps to immigrate to Montreal and become perhaps the greatest woman writer of Yiddish. Rosenfarb is the recipient of numerous literary prizes. In 1979 she was awarded the Mager Prize – the highest award for Yiddish literature – for The Tree of Life (Der boim fun leib). She lived in Montreal for fifty years and now resides in Toronto.
