Chava Rosenfarb

Crosenfarb

Chava Rosenfarb was born in Lodz, Poland. She survived the Jewish ghetto of Lodz and the Nazi concentration camps to immigrate to Montreal, where she became a prominent writer of Yiddish. Rosenfarb received numerous literary prizes. In 1979 she was awarded the Mager Prize – the highest award for Yiddish literature – for The Tree of Life (Der boim fun leib). She lived in Montreal for 50 years, then moved briefly to Toronto and settled in Alberta, where she died in 2011 at the age of 87.
