Antonio D'Alfonso

Antonio D’Alfonso was born in Montreal, on 6 August 1953. In 1978 he founded Guernica Editions, where he edited over three hundred books by authors from around the world. An author himself, he has published a number of books in French and in English. He also worked as literary critic in numerous magazines across Canada, in both English and French. He has produced three short films, and has collaborated either as scriptwriter, cameraperson, or as editor on other films. He has regularly given conferences on questions of literature, film and multiculturalism in Canada, in the USA and in Europe. In 1982 along with three other writers, he founded the trilingual magazine, Vice Versa. In 1986, along with three other writers, he founded the Association of Italian-Canadian writers. In 2002, his poetry collection Comment ça se passe was a finalist for the Trillium Award. He won the Trillium Award for his novel, Un vendredi du mois d’août in 2005. He is on the editorial board of the French-Language magazine, Virages. He lives in Toronto.
