Novelist, editor and publisher, Robert Allen was first and foremost a poet. Born in Bristol, England, he was educated at the University of Toronto and at Cornell University. For the last decades of his life, he lived in Montreal where he taught literature at Concordia University. His works include the novels ’Napoleon’s Retreat’ and ‘The Hawryliw Process’, a short-story collection, ‘A June Night in the Late Cenozoic’, and the poetry collections ‘Standing Wave’, ’Magellan’s Clouds’, and ‘Wintergarden’. He was the founding editor of The Moosehead Anthology and the editor of the literary journal Matrix.
