Roma Gelblum Bross was born in Poland on the eve of World War II. She spent her childhood years in Russia, in the legendary city of Samarkand in Central Asia. At nine she returned to Poland and after a brief stay went to live and work in Israel, where she completed her studies and wrote for several magazines and dailies. She immigrated to Montreal in the 1960s and has worked as a journalist, a ceramist, a teacher and a lecturer. She studied writing with Elizabeth Spencer and Terence Byrnes at Concordia University.
