Professor Ruth R. Wisse is the Martin Peretz Professor of Yiddish Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, and has taught at McGill, Stanford, New York, Hebrew and Tel Aviv universities.

A pre-eminent authority on modern Jewish literature, a widely published scholar, editor, essayist and columnist, Professor Wisse is most recently the author of “The Modern Jewish Canon”.

Her other works include “If I Am Not For Myself: The Liberal Betrayal of the Jews”, “The Schlemiel As Modern Hero”, “A Little Love in Big Manhattan”, and “I.L. Peretz And The Makings Of Modern Jewish Culture.”
